Role Theory in Groups - Sarah Norton

Just in case you missed this on our socials …Have you noticed that people can take on certain roles in groups? Sarah Norton introduces you to Role Theory and how it can help facilitators to recognise and harness group dynamics. If you'd like to learn more, Role Theory is one of the many great topics covered in our Advanced Group Facilitation course.

It can be inspiring to see Role Theory within the big picture of our world we live in. For a healthy entity at any level, we need enough roles to be working well together. If this was more prevalent, our world would work together better.

So it starts with ourselves. Within us, we have a constellation of selves playing various roles. When we are working with groups, we seek to have enough roles fulfilled to help that group make wise decisions. In turn we hope that this group is making a robust contribution to its broader community. And if the broader community can work well – it helps the state/nation function more wisely. And so on.

Scaling up good group facilitation practice is good for the world. This is why the world needs good facilitators!
