How easily can you pick yourself up after a big emotional experience? How easy do you find it to have ‘challenging conversations’, especially when there is high risk involved? Do you manage to be true to yourself, your values, beliefs and needs? And say what you need to say or do what you need to do?
Being asked to come in and help around a controversial issue, takes us to the deep end of facilitation. It can be exciting to be invited to provide facilitation for such work, and it is very rewarding to see it through to successful and sustainable outcomes.
However, we are regularly gathering stories of how such controversial work can be de-railed… and we have our own experiences to add to the mix!
Collaboration is in right now. From the design hub to the boardroom to ‘public engagement’ – collaboration is invoked as essential to solving complex challenges. Organisations are moving away from top-down decision making approaches to more collaborative ones as a way to better manage projects, drive innovation and change, and increase productivity.
